Gulf Oil Observers (GOO) is a new citizen science initiative connecting high school students and leading scientists in oil spill research.
The goal is to train students and others how to be citizen scientists, and then put their new found knowledge into use when they visit the Gulf Beaches and search for oil patties. Collected oil patty samples will be sent off to the scientific team at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) for analysis. These scientists will be able to identify the source of the oil and use the sample for their ongoing research.
Before starting PROJECT GOO, it is helpful to find out what you know about the 2010 oil spill. Here's a survey to test your knowledge.
